The Government of Puducherry has initiated process of developing integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management in the U.T of Puducherry as part of SwachhBharath Mission (SBM) of Govt of India.
The Mission was announced in the year December 2014 with the duration till 2nd October 2019 and it is being implemented by the Ministry of the Urban Development (MoUD).
High Power Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary and with Member drawn from concern Departments (including MoUD) has been constituted.
Secretary (LA) is the State Nodal Officer
Director, LAD is the Member Secretary.
District Level Review and Monitoring Committee are also formed.
Rs. 30.04 corers has been allocated for SBM period and out of which Rs.1.95cr released so far. Of which, Rs.1.26cr had been granted to 5 Municipalities.

Eradication of Manual Scavenging,
Modern and Scientific Municipal Solid Waste Management,
To effect behavioral change regarding healthy sanitation practices ,
Generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health,
Capacity Augmentation for ULB’s,
To create an enabling environment for private sector participation in Capex (Capital Expenditure)and Opex (Operation Maintenance).
